Our Curriculum
From early childhood through graduation, Avenues provides an innovative, world-focused curriculum anchored in a series of transformative learning experiences. Look “under the hood” of our program, and you’ll find the Avenues World Elements, a bespoke, curricular system that defines the knowledge, skills, and qualities that every Avenues student develops on their journey through school. From empathy to creativity, critical thinking to metacognition, the Avenues World elements represent our highest vision for a future-facing global education.
Avenues World Elements (AWE)
The AWE table defines both what and how Avenues students learn. It’s a powerful tool for teaching and learning, based on a decade of in-house R&D.
Language immersion
Through 5th grade, students learn in English and either Mandarin Chinese or Spanish, building confidence and fluency in a world language.
High‑Intensity Practice (HIP)
In HIP, students develop key cognitive skills and sharpen executive function through the intensive practice of writing, math, and coding.
Mastery
In Mastery, students pursue a passion to extraordinary depth, developing a multi-year project with support from faculty mentors and industry experts.
Interdisciplinary Studies
Avenues students of all ages complete projects that cut across disciplinary boundaries, cultivating real-world problem-solving skills.
World Course
From preschool through graduation, our interdisciplinary global studies program, World Course, takes students on a rich and rigorous intellectual journey through the global humanities.
