Student Life Across the Avenues Journey
Student life begins early and grows alongside each student’s development. From joyful classroom celebrations in the early years to student-led initiatives and leadership opportunities in the upper grades, students gradually gain the confidence, agency, and perspective to shape their community.

small world–kindergarten
Early Learning Center
In the Early Learning Center, student life is rooted in curiosity, creativity, and community. Students share their learning through gallery walks, participate in school-wide celebrations, and begin developing confidence in expressing their ideas and experiences.

grades 1–5
Lower Division
As students grow, opportunities expand. Lower Division students participate in faculty-led affinity spaces that deepen community and belonging, as well as cultural clubs such as Mandarin club where students explore calligraphy, traditional dance, and language through creative experiences.
School-wide events—including Lunar New Year, Carnaval, and World’s Fair—bring students together to celebrate cultures from around the world.
Students can also explore interests through afterschool extended learning opportunities and seasonal programs like Summer@Avenues, building friendships and discovering new passions beyond the classroom.

Middle Grades
In middle grades, students begin to take greater ownership of their interests. They participate in a wide range of clubs, athletics teams, performances, and student initiatives while developing the confidence to collaborate, compete, and contribute to the community.

Upper grades
In the upper grades, students lead.
They launch organizations, lead clubs, organize events, mentor younger students, and help shape the culture of the school. Through athletics, performances, publications, service initiatives, and leadership roles, students develop the confidence and perspective needed to make a meaningful impact beyond Avenues.

After school extended learning opportunities allow students to explore new interests, deepen skills, and collaborate with peers beyond the classroom.

Clubs and Student Leadership
More than 80 student and faculty-led clubs reflect the passions and curiosity of Avenues students. From robotics and debate to publications, service initiatives, and cultural affinity groups, students create spaces where ideas, interests, and leadership flourish.

Through meaningful partnerships and service initiatives, students develop empathy, responsibility, and a sense of purpose while contributing to communities locally and globally.

Summer@Avenues brings learning, creativity, and community together through engaging programs that allow students to explore interests and build friendships during the summer months.

Awareness Day
Avenues Awareness Day is an annual Upper Division tradition centered on global citizenship and social justice. Each year explores a different theme through a series of student-led workshops developed in partnership with faculty and attended by all Upper Division students throughout the day. Designed to spark reflection, dialogue and action, the day challenges students to deepen their thinking, engage with complex issues and consider the role they can play as future changemakers.
Lunar New York
Each year, Upper Division students and faculty come together to create a two-week celebration of Lunar New Year that brings the entire Avenues community into the experience. Through student-led events and activities for students from the Early Learning Center through Upper Division, the celebration becomes a joyful expression of collaboration, cultural exchange and community.
Festival de Español
Each spring, students across the Early Learning Center and Lower Division come together for the annual Festival de Español, celebrating the many countries, cultures and traditions connected through the Spanish language. Students share songs they’ve been learning in music, dances developed through movement classes, and stories and artwork created throughout the year. The result is a vibrant, joyful celebration of language, culture and community.
Art Expo
Each spring, the Avenues Art Expo transforms our campus into a celebration of art, music, dance and community. The halls are filled with work created by Lower and Upper Division students, alongside musical performances and concerts, our spring Avenues Drama Program production, Lower Division Dance Night and more. Together, these experiences showcase the creativity, expression and artistic growth of students across the school.
