Summer camp options

Avenues offers two summer programs: our signature immersion camp (with a choice of English, Mandarin Chinese, or Spanish) and chess camp. With joyful daily learning and play, a low student-to-teacher ratio, and fresh, nutritious meals, Summer@Avenues turns every student’s summer into an inspiring journey of discovery and fun.

Our camps are offered in one-week sessions, and can be mixed and matched to suit your summer schedule–enroll in all six weeks or choose the week that suits you best.

Open to rising nursery–grade 5 students. Offered in English, Mandarin, or Spanish. June 22–26; July 13–August 14.

Our campus in Chelsea offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a movement studio, rooftop playground, and bright, engaging, well-resourced classrooms. We make the most of our prime location, with frequent field trips to the High Line Park, just next door, and Chelsea’s many art galleries.

Staying active and getting outdoors

All camps include daily activities from Avenues’ signature health and P.E. curriculum, Wellness and Movement (WAM), as well as outdoor play sessions. Water days are a weekly highlight of our signature immersion camp.

Scheduling options to suit every family’s summer

Our flexible one-week sessions allow you to choose the timing that works best for your family, making it easy to plan around summer activities and travel. Enroll in all six weeks or choose the week that suits you best.

Flexible care for busy families

Camp runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m., but early care (from 8:30 a.m.) and after care (until 5:00 p.m.) are included, providing seamless support for families with busy summer schedules.

Signature Immersion Camp

Learning comes alive through hands-on projects—all in the language of your choice: Chinese, Spanish, or English. Each week brings new adventures, from turning our building into an art gallery after exploring the murals of Chelsea and the High Line, to filming a cooking show after a grocery store visit, to testing ideas like “How could we survive in outer space?”

Add in Water Days, WAM classes, soccer, hip-hop, outdoor play, and freshly prepared lunches—and every day is packed with creativity, curiosity, and fun.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Chess Camp

Led by Coach Harold and his team of professional coaches, our chess camp welcomes players of all levels, from absolute beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. We cover tactical blows such as pins, forks, skewers, and removing the guard. We also study world champions, endgame maneuvers, openings, and the 50 deadly checkmates. Puzzles and chess brain teasers engage students at all playing levels. Finally, students participate in a camp tournament for a chance to be crowned champion.

Students are grouped by ability. Between chess sessions, students recharge and refocus with Wellness and Movement classes and outdoor play.
