Wellness and Movement
Wellness and Movement (WAM) is our signature health and physical education program where movement becomes a way to explore science, health, teamwork, leadership and personal wellbeing. Students might study the circulatory system before getting their hearts pumping, investigate the physics of movement through sport , or reflect on teamwork after a collaborative challenge. By engaging both body and mind, WAM develops healthy habits, confidence and a lifelong appreciation for wellness.

Our mission aspires to graduate students who are "emotionally unafraid and physically fit" and who are "great leaders when they can be, good followers when they should be." WAM brings those aspirations to life through movement.
Learning in WAM often extends beyond movement itself, connecting with ideas students are exploring across the curriculum. A study of ocean ecosystems, for example, might inspire movement challenges that bring concepts like conservation, pollution and recycling to life.
Students analyze, collaborate, solve problems, reflect on their thinking, and make connections across disciplines. There is science. There is math. There is literacy. There is teamwork. It is joyful, intellectually engaging, and deeply connected to the rest of an Avenues education.

Long before interscholastic athletics begins in the middle grades, students build confidence, coordination and skill through a wide range of sports and movement experiences. From gymnastics, soccer and basketball to tennis, track and field, ice skating and strength and conditioning, WAM gives students the chance to try new things, develop their abilities and discover the activities they love.
Because WAM values curiosity, collaboration, reflection and perseverance alongside athletic skill, there are many ways for students to find success. Whether they arrive with a favorite sport or are still discovering what they enjoy, every student has space to grow, contribute and thrive.
