At Avenues, we recognize the immense potential of our youngest learners.
From 12-months-old to grade 5, students learn English and Spanish or Mandarin simultaneously, harnessing their natural language abilities. In a nurturing environment with an interdisciplinary, inquiry-based curriculum, they build the foundation for lifelong learning and achievement.
At Avenues, learning a second language is more than an academic pursuit; it is a daily practice that transforms the way students see and think about the world. From Small World to 5th grade, students 50% in English and 50% in Mandarin or Spanish.
Play-Based Learning
Tactile play develops fine and gross motor skills, physical play stimulates growth, and make-believe play accelerates social-emotional learning. Most importantly for us, all kinds of play foster a love of learning that young children will carry with them as they move upwards through school.
Social-Emotional Wellbeing
At Avenues, our early childhood program begins by gently guiding students through the process of healthy separation from caregivers, setting the stage for the development of critical self-help skills. With personalized support from dedicated teachers, our youngest learners.
Inquiry-Led Learning
Through joyful, hands-on exploration, our STEAM and World Course activities—from cooking and gardening to music and crafts—invite children to observe closely, ask questions, and nurture their natural curiosity.
Award-Winning Facilities
Our beautiful early childhood facility was designed in consultation with Avenues faculty to provide safe and stimulating spaces for different kinds of learning and play. These include a fully landscaped outdoor playground, movement spaces, a teaching kitchen, and more.

TODDLER-KINDERGARTEN
Early Learning Center
From 12 months old to grade 5, Avenues’ Early Learning Center immerses students in English and Spanish or Mandarin, harnessing their natural ability to learn languages. In a warm, bilingual environment, students experience a unique learning journey that blends joyful exploration with deep, rigorous learning.
By kindergarten, they’re building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills—growing into confident, curious learners ready for the challenges and opportunities of the Lower Division.
In grades 1—5, students engage in a rich, inquiry-based curriculum that builds a strong academic foundation while fostering student agency and diverse perspectives. Our 50/50 immersion model means students alternate days of instruction in English and their target language—Spanish or Mandarin—with learning continuing seamlessly across both.
They also engage in a wide range of specialty classes. In English, students take science, dance, and Wellness and Movement (WAM); in their target language, they explore art, music, and library. It all comes together in a joyful, intentional learning environment where students feel deeply known and supported and inspired to grow.
From middle grades through graduation, Avenues is more than a school—it’s a launchpad. In grades 6–12, students are not only preparing for college, but also discovering who they are, what drives them, and how they want to shape the world around them.
From day one, they’re guided by expert faculty and dedicated deans, who help each student design a path that’s right for them. Along the way, students take ownership of their learning—choosing from a rich mix of rigorous, interdisciplinary courses, signature programs, 80+ student-led clubs, and robust arts and athletics. It’s a vibrant community where students are seen, supported, and inspired to grow as scholars, leaders, and engaged citizens.
