PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT AVENUES

Fostering health, fitness, and joy in movement

Beginning in early childhood, our health and physical education program promotes physical development, self-awareness, and personal thriving. We take a holistic approach, emphasizing social-emotional wellbeing in tandem with physical literacy, fitness, and athletic skill.

WELLNESS AND MOVEMENT

Cultivating healthy habits to last a lifetime

Through Wellness and Movement (WAM), our signature health and physical education program, we honor our mission statement pledge to graduate students who are “emotionally unafraid and physically fit.”

WAM spirals throughout the curriculum from nursery to 12th grade, beginning with joyful movement classes and progressing through sports such as basketball, soccer, and volleyball. In Upper Division Wellness classes, students explore questions of personal identity and healthy decision-making around relationships, substances, sexual health, nutrition, and sleep.

The Avenues athletics program provides opportunities for students to improve their skills, experience the benefits of being physically active, and enjoy competing on a team or as part of a program. We welcome all types of student athletes: those just starting out, those who want to be part of a team, and those who wish to push themselves to a higher level and master their sport.

Well-equipped facilities for the pursuit of excellence

Our students have access to an outstanding set of facilities for movement, fitness, and athletics, including a 20,000-square-foot, full-size gymnasium and a rooftop playground with stunning views of the city.

On-campus facilities
Our facilities include a rooftop playground, full-size gymnasium, fitness center, dance and yoga studio, weight room, and locker rooms.

Clinics and intramurals
We provide Saturday basketball clinics, as well as after-school intramurals in the spring semester.
