Developing worldwise problem solvers

In grades 6–8, students engage deeply across subjects in both English and Portuguese, developing global fluency and bilingual habits of mind. Faculty guide students through rigorous and engaging project work, while deans provide targeted academic mentorship and social-emotional support.

BRAZILIAN STUDIES

Global scope meets local focus

Students learn in both English and Portuguese throughout the day, with additional support available in both. Brazilian social studies and geography are integrated into the World Course, Avenues’ interdisciplinary global studies program.

INTEGRATED SCIENCE

A hands-on, lab-based approach to investigation

Taking an integrated approach to earth sciences, chemistry, physics, and biology, we explore foundational principles through experimentation, and apply Avenues’ lab-based pedagogy to the scientific topics from the Brazilian national curriculum.

HIGH-INTENSITY PRACTICE

Building core skills through persistent practice

We developed High-Intensity Practice to train students in key thinking skills such as empathy, creativity, and abstraction. In frequent, highly focused and carefully structured sessions, students sharpen their executive functioning and working memory.

THE DEANS PROGRAM

Targeted mentorship and social-emotional support

Avenues deans are full-time mentors whose sole responsibility is the social-emotional well-being and academic success of their students. Working closely with faculty, deans ensure that students are fully supported and appropriately challenged at school.

WELLNESS AND MOVEMENT

Establishing healthy habits to last a lifetime

Wellness and Movement (WAM), our signature health and physical education program, ensures each student builds a foundation for life-long fitness and wellness, including mental health, nutrition, mindfulness, team sports, and interscholastic athletics.

Avenues Language Learning Intensive (ALLI)

ALLI is a specialized program for students in grades 6–9 who need additional support in English as they transition into an English-speaking academic environment. Through interdisciplinary, project-based learning, students develop the language skills, confidence, and academic readiness needed to thrive in Middle Grades and beyond.

DUAL DIPLOMA

An integrated Brazilian program

We take Brazilian educational standards as seriously as we do international ones. From grade 1 onwards, we incorporate the Brazilian national curricular components of Portuguese into our language program, and distribute Brazil-specific content from other subjects across our curriculum. Having attained balanced mastery of both languages by graduation, all students are awarded both a Brazilian and an American diploma.
