Avenues The World School is thrilled to announce the launch of Big Picture: A Series on Parenting, featuring early childhood experts Nancy Schulman and Alicia Stoller. In a series of in-depth conversations, Nancy and Alicia share unique insights into child development and offer valuable advice for overcoming the universal challenges of raising young children. Episodes will be released monthly on our streaming app available on Apple TV, iOS devices and desktop browsers.
There is an overwhelming amount of parenting advice out there—much of it conflicting and ambiguous. Recognising this, Nancy and Alicia draw on their extensive experience to demystify the big ideas and translate them into easy-to-understand advice. The series seeks to empower parents by building their confidence, encouraging them to trust their instincts, and helping them make informed decisions based on their child’s needs.
Nancy Schulman is one of the country’s most prominent and highly regarded early childhood educators, leaders and authors. A founding member of Avenues The World School’s leadership team, she served as the head of the Early Learning Center from 2012–2022, and now serves as a senior advisor. Prior to joining Avenues, Nancy was the director of the prestigious 92nd Street Y Nursery School from 1990–2011. She is also the co-author of Practical Wisdom for Parents: Demystifying the Preschool Years (Knopf, 2007).
Alicia Stoller has been an educator for more than 20 years, working as a classroom teacher, graduate instructor, school administrator and educational consultant. She was a founding faculty member of Avenues The World School, where she currently serves as director of parent education and partnerships. Previously, she taught child development and served as an advisor to student teachers at Bank Street College of Education and has held senior leadership positions at several schools, including, most recently, director of the nursery school at the JCC Manhattan.
