The report card reimagined

A powerful tool for teachers, parents and students alike, Flight Path integrates a constellation of data to plot a student’s progress over their time at Avenues. Unlike traditional report cards, which present a one-dimensional snapshot of a student’s past performance in a given subject, Flight Path looks forward, enabling students to see where they’re headed–and make any changes that might be necessary to get where they want to go.

The Target Range

The green band that stretches across the graph indicates the range of what we consider to be on-target for a student as they move up through the grades. The researchers who developed Flight Path calculated this range based on several years of data from Avenues graduates who matriculated into selective colleges and universities, as well as our own benchmarks.

The Growth Line

The growth line depicts a student’s academic trajectory, calculated at the beginning and end of each year as a weighted average of the various indicators. The position of the growth line relative to the target range lets students, teachers and parents know when intervention might be necessary. A student whose indicators and growth line are towards the bottom of the range might need more support, while one whose growth line is consistently within the target range might benefit from additional challenge.

The Indicators

Flight Path gathers a range of data points from a student’s journey through Avenues and plots them against a target range. These indicators include standardized tests such as the SAT and ISA, classroom report cards, and specific skills-based assessments, as well as more dynamic elements like extracurricular projects, special activities, exemplary work, and study abroad experiences.
