Avenues: The World School is an international leader in educational technology and is recognized as an Apple Distinguished School. Our flexible learning environment combines the importance of face-to-face instruction by world-class faculty with the power of new and emerging technologies. As with our New York campus, in São Paulo we are devoted to cultivating 21st-century global citizens who are nimble problem solvers, able to function at their best in unexpected situations. Empowered by technology, Avenues students learn in an internationally collaborative environment that reflects the world in which they will live and work.
Use of technology starts with our youngest learners in the Primary Division, where students in nursery and pre-kindergarten engage in age-appropriate activities on iPads. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade receive an iPad and also have access to MacBook Air laptop carts. Students in 6th through 8th grade receive a MacBook Air laptop and have access to iPad carts. From 9th through 12th grade, students receive both an iPad and a MacBook Air as part of our 1+1 program. These tools transform the classroom into a highly engaging, collaborative and student-centric space where peer-to-peer or teacher-student collaboration happens in real time.
With the goal that all Avenues students “speak” code and understand why code is an important 21st- century skill, computer science has been added to the curriculum, starting with Creative Computation in the Primary Division. Computer science empowers students to be creators, not just consumers, of technology. Most importantly, in coding classes, students are challenged to define a problem, and then solve it – the best way to foster critical-thinking skills in the classroom.
Our viewbook provides a comprehensive summary of an Avenues education.
