Like other private schools in São Paulo, Avenues will publish a complete schedule of tuition and fees for the 2018-19 school year in March of 2018. For planning purposes, the projected tuition and technology fees for 2017-18 are available here.
Unlike most international schools in São Paulo, Avenues does not require an entrance fee or capital contribution.
English will be the primary instructional language at Avenues São Paulo. As Avenues aims to graduate students with proficiency in at least one other language, all international students will take Portuguese as an additional language. English language support will be available as necessary. Additional language classes may also be offered through our after-school program.
Our mission, vision and leadership have attracted outstanding faculty from all over the world. Several of our teachers have PhDs and over half have Master’s degrees or the equivalent, and many have more than 10 years of teaching experience. Nearly half of our faculty will join us from leading schools in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, Italy, China, Singapore, and many other countries. We have also attracted top local teachers from Graded, St. Paul’s, Chapel, St. Francis and other fine schools in town.
Students will have the option to pursue American and/or Brazilian diplomas.
Avenues exists to develop future world-wise leaders uniquely equipped to understand and solve global-scale problems. As a world school–a new kind of 15-grade independent school–we have designed our dual-diploma program with global readiness and transferability in mind, meaning that our students will be equipped to thrive wherever the world takes them. Avenues graduates have been accepted to Harvard, Stanford, Yale, University of Sydney, Kings College London, University of St. Andrews and Keio University in Tokyo – to name a few. You may see the full list of colleges to which Avenues students have gained admission here.
Avenues will not offer IB courses. Avenues has opted for greater flexibility in order to achieve greater depth in its curricular requirements. This has enabled the implementation of research-driven innovations in education, such as project-based and interdisciplinary learning, High Intensity Practice (HIP) and the Mastery Program. Like the IB, the Avenues curriculum promotes independent learning, research skills and critical thinking through a deep understanding of content areas—an approach that guarantees excellent results in traditional college entrance exams around the world.
All Avenues students will have full academic records which may be transferred to their next school. We have designed our dual-diploma program with global readiness and transferability in mind, meaning that our students will be equipped to thrive wherever the world takes them.
Making use of its ample facilities, Avenues São Paulo will offer a comprehensive after-school program. Our New York campus currently hosts more than 25 optional clubs covering topics from technology to literature to chess. In the Primary Division at Avenues São Paulo, students will be able to explore a variety of specialized programs, including private music lessons. In the Secondary Division the after-school experience will provide venues, resources and support for students to explore their passions in depth.
Avenues will participate in local leagues and convene teams in soccer, futsal, volleyball and basketball.
Avenues is mindful of the complexity of the new school experience and the upheaval of relocation. Our leadership team and faculty are exceptionally well prepared and excited to welcome hundreds of students and families transfering from hundreds of schools and countries around the world. Our teachers, deans and leaders are developing thoughtful transition and welcome programs to foster a culture of inclusion, safety and respect. We are deeply committed to ensuring that all new families and students feel at home at Avenues.
We value community and are committed to fostering a strong partnership between school and home. Parents will have the opportunity to participate in the Avenues Parent Association (APA), and contribute to a full calendar of campus events and classroom activities. The Avenues São Paulo campus also features a spacious and sunlit parent cafe which is sure to be a hub for the community.
Bus services will be available for predetermined routes, based on need.
There is no single profile of an Avenues student. We hope to cultivate a student community diverse in background, interest and talent, and the application process is designed to assess each of these aspects equally. Above all, Avenues seeks students who can thrive in a rigorous and creative learning environment.
Applications will only be processed for the 2018–19 academic year for nursery to 10th grade. Families interested in applying for future years are encouraged to fill out our online inquiry form here.
In nursery through 1st grade, students are not expected to be fluent in English and will gain proficiency in English through our English immersion program. In 2nd grade and above, a minimum grade-level English fluency requirement must be met to enroll. This will be measured by a language proficiency screening and reviewed by the admissions committee. In some cases, students will be accepted contingent upon them gaining the necessary proficiency prior to enrollment. Once enrolled, English Language Support (ELS) will be available at all grade levels to provide extra support to students whose first language is not English.
Personal recommendations are not required, nor are they encouraged. Each applicant will be assessed according to the requirements listed on the website.
Each student will be given an equal opportunity for acceptance in the opening year. In subsequent years, Avenues will give special consideration to siblings of currently enrolled students to help foster a strong sense of community within the school.
Avenues does not offer a discount on tuition and fees for families with multiple children enrolled.
