Wendy Chang has more than two decades of experience in the college admissions field within schools across the United States and Africa.
Wendy Chang has more than two decades of experience in the college admissions field within schools across the United States and Africa. She joined Avenues in 2018 from St. John’s School in Houston, Texas, where she served as the director of college counseling. In this role, she led all college-related programming, communications and strategies, and also supported a group of 40 students, advising them on college admission and financial aid processes and helping them prepare applications and essays. She also supervised a team of four full-time college counselors and a full-time administrative assistant.
Prior to St. John’s, Wendy was the inaugural director of U.S. college counseling for the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, where she created and managed all the first U.S. college guidance program at a residential boarding school for South African girls. She also served for six years as the director of college guidance at the Collegiate School in Manhattan and also worked as a college counseling consultant and advisor for a variety of companies and organizations throughout the world. Previously, she also worked for six years as a senior admissions officer at the Harvard College admissions office, where she evaluated applications of 1,500 candidates annually, served as chairperson of decision-making committee, and directed joint recruitment programs with Duke and Georgetown Universities and the University of Pennsylvania.
Wendy received her B.A. from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, with a concentration in biological sciences. She later went on to obtain an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a concentration in administration, planning and social policy.
In her spare time, Wendy enjoys running, international travel and reading. She has completed numerous marathons, including Barcelona, Boston, Johannesburg, New York and Philadelphia.
