My child does not speak the language or speaks only some of it. Will they be able to participate in the activities?
Our Summer Camp is open to children of all language backgrounds, whether they already speak the language or are being introduced to it for the first time. Our goal is to keep students so engaged in a variety of activities that they don’t even realize they are gaining familiarity with a new language. Repetition, paraphrasing, songs, and group routines are used to build children’s comfort, comprehension, and motivation in the target language.
Are the teachers from Avenues New York?
For our Immersion and Non-Immersion Camps—our signature programs—all teachers are part of the Avenues New York faculty.
Are there any other programs available?
Yes! We offer Chess Camp in June and August. All levels are welcome, and the schedule is balanced with outdoor play, movement classes, and breaks throughout the day. Chess Camp is run by Growing Minds and led by our Coach Harold.
How big are the groups?
We limit our groups to no more than 14 students, with two to three instructors, depending on the number of students and their age level. Children will be placed with others of a similar age. We also require a minimum of 4 students to open a group.
What is the cancellation policy?
Registrations canceled more than 30 days before the session start are eligible for a full refund. For example, if a session begins on July 13, cancellations made on or before June 13 are eligible for a full refund.
No refunds will be issued within 30 days of the session start.
Is Summer@Avenues open to students who do not attend Avenues New York?
Yes! Our summer programs are open to students who do not attend Avenues. Please note that rising Nursery students must be 3 years old by August 31, 2026.
Will lunch and snacks be provided?
Healthy lunch and snacks will be provided each day. We are able to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions. You will receive the lunch menu in the welcome email one week before the session starts. Please note that we are a nut-aware campus and do not allow outside food in the building.
Do children go outside the school building?
Yes! For students entering Grade 1 and up, we explore the neighborhood around us, visiting the High Line, grocery stores, art galleries, and playgrounds. For children ages 3–5, we may occasionally take short walking trips, with families notified 1 day in advance. Students are always accompanied by their teachers and Summer@Avenues staff.
What are the camp times?
Our doors open at 8:30 a.m. for early drop-off. Camp starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Aftercare is available until 5:00 p.m. with flexible pick-up times. Children staying after 3:00 p.m. will participate in group games, outdoor play, sports classes and art activities. Early drop-off and aftercare are included in the price.
What health information do families need to submit before camp starts?
All campers must have up-to-date health forms on file with the Avenues Health Office. Families must complete and upload all required forms to Magnus at least one week before the program begins. Campers cannot attend without completed health forms.
Required forms:
• Health exam completed within the last 365 days
• Immunization records (per New York State requirements)
• Any applicable allergy, asthma, or medical forms
What does a day at camp look like?
Children take part in engaging, language-rich activities, including projects, arts & crafts, group games, sports, cooking, music, and reading time. Outdoor play is also a key part of the summer experience! Daily recesses are scheduled in our playground and local parks, and activities are always unique. We have Water Day every Friday, and families are welcome to join us on Thursdays for 30 minutes to visit our learning spaces and see what campers have been doing.
