Eric Ogden joined Avenues in 2012 as a 4th grade head teacher. As a founding faculty member, Eric worked alongside a team of educators to create and design curriculum for Avenues in its first year of operation. In the fall of 2014, he assumed the role of associate division head for grades 3–5, and in the fall of 2018, became the head of Lower Division.
Prior to his time at Avenues, Eric was a 2nd grade head teacher at Columbia Grammar School in Manhattan, where he co-taught lessons in all major subject areas and served as a grade-level chairperson for the 2nd grade teaching team. He began his career in education as a 3rd grade head teacher at the Cherry Hill School in River Edge, NJ. While at Cherry Hill, he also served as the affirmative action/discrimination officer, where he led a district wide committee, presented workshops and authored a comprehensive equity plan.
Eric received his B.A. in elementary education and English from Dartmouth College and later went on to receive a Master of Science in educational leadership from Western Governors University. He is certified as an elementary educator by the New Jersey Department of Education.
An avid and active volunteer, Eric has lent his time as a patient care aide as a hospice volunteer, reconstructed homes destroyed by flooding after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and mentored a 16-year-old boy under the care of the New Jersey Division of Family Services.
When he is not teaching or volunteering, Eric enjoys travel, theater and long walks with his dog in Central Park.
