With 15 years of experience in highly selective college admissions, Dave brings his admissions expertise to the New York City independent school world joining Avenues in summer of 2018. Most recently, Dave served as one of the directors in the undergraduate admission office at Columbia University in City of New York, overseeing international admissions and strategic initiatives. This included overseeing international enrollment (roughly 20% of an incoming class), spearheading off-campus outreach across the country and world to nearly 50 states and 50 countries annually, and providing leadership for many of Columbia’s key recruitment priorities.
In his 12 years at Columbia, Dave’s responsibilities ranged from the director of engineering recruitment to helping reinvigorate a joint program for students between Columbia and The Juilliard School. Areas of focus included the recruitment and selection of students interested in STEM, arts and humanities, non-first year enrollment and students historically underrepresented at Columbia. He worked closely with hundreds of Columbia faculty, students, alumni and other invested stakeholders through a very successful decade at the university where Columbia has emerged as one of the top Ivy League institutions and among the top three most selective universities in the world. Notably, he was a seasoned chair of admissions committee having final decision authority on tens of thousands of applications.
In addition to Columbia, Dave was the director of admissions at Bates College in Lewiston, ME, helping to bring in the most selective and diverse incoming class in Bates’ history (at that time). He started his admissions career at his alma mater, Fordham University in Bronx, NY.
Dave has developed strong, longstanding relationships with college and guidance counselors at many of the world’s leading high schools, and with admissions directors and officers at the most selective institutions of higher learning around the globe. Often asked to be a college night speaker and panelist, he has recruited in numerous states and countries, and frequently presented on several topics at admissions conferences. In addition to graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Fordham College, he also earned a Master of Arts in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Outside of work, Dave enjoys this great city we call home, live music and yoga. He cares deeply about issues of access and equity in education.
