Anne Taffin d’Heursel Baldisseri creates conditions for instructional excellence by building community; leading and motivating people; and sustaining a culture of quality where teachers and children are encouraged to learn alongside one another in an innovative, exciting and nurturing environment.
Before becoming a teacher, Anne completed an M.S. and Ph.D. in zoology from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). She has since gained different qualifications in education, and is currently part of a research group at Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), where her aim is to complete a post-doctorate degree related to bilingualism, reading and motivation.
Anne served as head of pre-preparatory at St. Paul’s School in São Paulo from 2007 to 2016. During her time there, she instituted many of the ideas from Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero. Anne is passionate about educating the whole child, focusing on his or her strengths and working with parents. Under her leadership, a phonics program was introduced to provide children with the best strategies for reading and writing. In addition, Anne instituted changes to the behavior policy and playground program that gave greater emphasis to the emotional and social aspects of child development. While working as a pre-K teacher, Anne invented an innovative strategy called Flag Time® that is being implemented in other parts of the school and in other institutions.
Anne believes in continuous professional development of faculty. At St. Paul’s, she was responsible for organizing professional development of her staff in order to create an environment that actively supported the learning of all pupils. Anne also organized two St. Paul’s school education conferences and delivered frequent workshops for parents, focusing on pedagogical and behavioral aspects. Anne runs workshops and courses at national and international events centered on differentiated instruction and formative assessment, as well as offering courses on her work for teachers and parents to build a sustainable culture of high performance.
