Amy Young
Director of Deans and College Counseling

Amy Louise Young has more than 15 years of experience in the college admissions field, including at both the college and secondary school level. She joined Avenues early in 2013 from Riverdale Country School in New York, where she had served as associate director of college counseling for four years. In that capacity, she advised each year approximately 90 juniors and seniors and their parents on the entire range of issues involved in the college application process. In addition, she worked closely with faculty to identify students’ particular talents, maintained close relationships with college admission officers and hosted college representatives on campus each fall.

Prior to Riverdale, Amy worked as assistant director of college advising and taught history at the Severn School (Annapolis, MD). She also spent two years as assistant dean of admissions and director of college visits for Reed College (Portland, OR).

A history major at Reed, Amy went on to earn an A.M. in Middle Eastern studies at Harvard University, pursuing her studies up to the dissertation level. Along the way, she did summer study in Arabic at Hebrew University and the University of Chicago, as well as at Middlebury College’s summer Language School.
