Chelsea Now

February 2nd, 2011 - “There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come,” announced Chris Whittle, CEO of Avenues: The World School, quoting Victor Hugo at the school’s filled-to-capacity luncheon on February 1 highlighting the school’s plan to open in fall 2012. “Increasingly, life is going to get more and more international,” said Whittle, “and so your capabilities to navigate in other cultures are going to be helpful—whether you’re in the art world or banking.” Eventually planned to have campuses in 20 cities around the world, Avenues will open its first school on Tenth Avenue in Chelsea, backing up to the High Line and is looking forward to its new neighbors there. “Avenues has been a good neighbor to the High Line,” said Joshua David, co-founder of the Friends of the High Line.
